Where To Find Ideas For Videos

Are you stuck on what to film next? Have you already checked out and used the ideas from my 100 Fun & Unique Video Ideas for Beauty & Makeup Gurus page, but are looking for MORE? Then you've come to the right place! Here I'll give some suggestions on how to generate or find ideas on new videos for you to film when it comes to makeup and beauty content (or anything else, really).

Google & Youtube's Autocomplete

Google and Youtube has this neat feature where when you start typing something into the search bar, it will auto generate phrases. These are actually things people have been searching for as well, so you can use this to your advantage to generate video ideas.

For example, if I enter the simple word "makeup" into youtube's search bar, several phrases show up:

  • Makeup tutorial
  • Makeup for beginners
  • Makeup storytime
  • Makeup asmr
  • Makeup hacks
  • Makeup slime
  • Makeup transformation
  • Makeup declutter
Now take a more specific term like "Huda Beauty Rose Quartz Palette" and you'll get (after that phrase):

  • swatches
  • review
  • dark skin
  • tutorial
  • dupes
  • looks
  • woc
  • brown skin
  • eye swatches
  • vs Mercury Retrograde
This is a much more detailed list of video ideas for the newer Huda Beauty Rose Quartz palette. You can see people are interested in swatches and reviews, but also that POC are interested in whether or not this palette will be good for people with darker skin tones. People are also searching for comparisons to the previous Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde palette, and are wondering if there are any dupes out there.

You can also simply enter in your phrase into the search bar and then start adding in letters in alphabetical order - a, b, c, and so on - to generate phrases to find video ideas.

Look At Other Youtuber's Channels

This might seem like a no-brainer, but look at other youtuber's channels and see what they're talking about right now, and videos they've made in the past. If you see a video that stands out to you, make your own video with that idea and improve on it. Of course it's always good to give credit if they came up with the idea for that video!

Look at Subreddits, Discord, and Facebook Groups

Basically look anywhere where your target demographic may congregate and discuss things in your niche. Reddit and Facebook groups are a great place to see what people are talking about. I've been told that Discord is too but I don't use that much so I can't verify if that's a good place to get information (for makeup, at any rate). But it can't hurt to look!

Look At Your Last 10 Videos

What were the top 3 videos out of your last 10? Which 3 videos were most popular for you this month? Build some videos off of those.

Ask Your Audience

Ask your subscribers what they'd like to see, and to have them comment in your video section. You could also ask them on your Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media accounts they follow you on as well.

Look In Other Youtuber's Comments Section

Another way to find video ideas is to look at other youtuber's comment sections, and see what questions people are asking. Can you answer their questions in video format?
